Spotlight on Evelynn Renner

It all started when…

Evelynn Renner, Northeastern High School junior, selected a project for her Girl Scout ‘Gold Award.’ Evelynn is a York County Master Watershed Steward (MWS) and wanted to educate children about caring for our environment. Her mentor for the project was MWS Wendy Seifert.

Evelynn developed a slogan, “What goes in your drains ends in our ocean,” and designed artwork that would make her point. She joined forces with York County MWS’s Street 2 Creek team and painted her mini-mural on a storm drain outside of the children’s entrance to the Martin Library, 159 E Market St, York, PA 17401. She also created bookmarks with the same theme; they were given to children at the library circulation desk.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award in Girl Scouting. Girls earn their Gold Award by using everything they’ve learned as a Girl Scout to help fix a problem in their community or make a lasting change in their world - and Evelynn did just that.
